Unconfirmed sources report that the FCC has once again blocked the distribution of the political ad "Wrapped in The Flag". The station was preparing to broadcast the ad during the upcoming Republican convention when an FCC informant notified the agency the ad was in the building. Officers raided the station, seized the tapes of the ad and caused extensive damage to the building.
This marks the second time that the FCC, under White House orders, has tried to stop the broadcast of the ad. The first time Michael Powell, head of the FCC merely threatened the national networks and they backed down. The station in New York was apparently going bankrupt and had nothing to lose by broadcasting the ad.
One media watcher gave his view of the matter. "I don't know what the big deal is really. I think the ad kind of sucks. I mean it was obviously pieced together in 10 minutes by some hack with no talent and too much time on their hands. It's not like it's anything profound. The White House should have let it run the first time and let it hit without a splash. Only now, after The FCC has tried to stop it, does anybody give a shit."
Jack Burns, ad critic from the New York Post Dispatch, called the ad "stupid and disappointing" He went on to say, "If this is all the better the left can do when they make political ads, Bush has this one in the bag. It's hardly worth the 15 seconds it takes to down load it."
"Wrapped in the Flag" may never be broadcast, but is still available from a web site hosted in Malaysia. Real Player(recommended)
