New poll finds Chelsea Clinton leads John McCain nationwide

(WASHINGTON) - A new USA Today/Gallup poll released Friday found Chelsea Clinton leads John McCain, the aging Republican Senator by 17 percent nationwide. Chelsea Clinton also was seen by poll respondents as the strongest Democratic contender to beat Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. In comparison Chelsea Clinton led McCain by 2 points in the same USA Today/Gallup poll taken just two weeks ago. Pollsters said the latest results reflected Chelsea Clinton's pointed attacks on McCain. Chelsea blasted McCain's "Chimp like" domestic policy statements and she also called McCain's support of the failed Bush war policy "misguided and quaint in the extreme".
