Pat Robertson Extradited To Venezuela To Face Terrorism Charges

Robertson in hot waterUnconfirmed source report that television evangelist Pat Robertson has been extradited to Venezuela. Venezuelan authorities requested the extradition in the wake of Robertson's suggestion that American agents assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez to stop his country from becoming a "launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

Robertson said before he was turned over to Venezuelan police that he stood by his comments and vowed to "fight that dirty little terrorist Chávez with every once of my god given strength." Robertson was placed onboard a Venezuelan Airlines jet and flown to Carcass to stand trial on terrorism charges.

The whole mess started yesterday when Robertson said "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200-billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

"It's a huge hypocrisy to maintain this discourse against terrorism and at the same time, in the heart of the country, there are entirely terrorist statements like those," said Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel. "That is why we are glad that the U.S. has honored our extradition request and delivered Robertson to us. We plan on giving him the best trial money can buy and punishment that will send a messages that in a civilized world terrorist threats by radical clerics of any stripe will not be tolerated."

The U.S. government distanced itself from the comments and vowed to launch an investigation into the "terrorist statements" made by Robertson and other political figures such as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly. Venezuela is the United States' fourth-largest oil supplier and needs to mollified if the U.S. is to maintain a steady supply.

"It was the right thing to do." Said White House Spokesman Ben Lion. "Mr. Robertson broke the law and we have a rock solid extradition treaty with Venezuela. We wish him luck down there, but really…he should have just kept his damn mouth shut."
