Let me get this straight. A 15-year-old girl from “Licking Valley” High School in New Jersey has been arrested as a sex offender for taking nude photos of herself with her cell phone and giving them out to classmates (http://www.newarkadvocate.com/article/20081008/NEWS01/810080302)
I could understand this if some 40-year-old guy was taking the pictures. I could understand it if the pictures were taken by anyone without her knowledge or consent. But what this law does is it effectively OUTLAWS NUDITY!!!
I’m sure most readers of this story have found themselves naked at one point or another, probably even in public! I know I have!
I’ve gone skinny dipping, camping (requires changing clothes outside as the tent is too small), hiking (sometimes requires me to whip out my penis to urinate) and even taken nude outdoor hot tubs with my Evangelical Christian neighbor’s peering eyes right next door. Not to mention at my health club there will sometimes be 6 naked guys in the shower all at once.
Of course, I rarely take nude pictures of myself mainly because I don’t think anyone would want them.
What are these New Jersey officials afraid of? Are they afraid that some young man might masturbate over them? Are they afraid that some girls may see them thus revealing some latent homosexuality?
It’s the human body people! Don’t make her register as a sex offender for the next 20 years! Lighten up!
Can anyone give me an explanation as to why this is even an issue?
