China Tires recalled : Defect Delays Nasa Shuttle Launch

(Cape Canaveral : Ucs News) The Consumer Product Safety Commision is demanding a recall of 450 thousand tires from China. The Defective tires have been blamed for numerous accidents, injuries and damage to the Space Shuttle Atlantis.

According to Nasa officials the forward landing gear of the Shuttle Atlantis was severely damaged after a tread separation event while landing. Nasa officials stated the light-truck tires from China’s Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co. failed just after the shuttles drag chute deployed.

After the tire failure Nasa contacted The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and demanded “an immediate investigation”. The importer of the tires , Foreign Tire Sales Inc. them admitted there were problems with light-truck tires supplied to Nasa by the Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co.

A Nasa study later confirmed the tires were constructed with inadequate gum strips, used to prevent tread separation, or contained no gum rubber strips at all. This involves tires for full size vans, SUV’s and pick-ups from China. They were sold under the brand names Shuttle Ready, Space Ace, Cheap skates and WOFTAM.
