Chinese beef recalled: 42-million pounds contaminated with lead

(USA : UCS News International) More than a dozen people in eight states are sick, and Chinese beef may be to blame. Almost 42-million pounds of beef exported from the asian nation are being recalled due to a possible contamination with toxic lead.

The recall-targeted hamburger meat specifically. According to sources close to the investigation the beef was destined for toy production but was illegally diverted into the food supply.

“If the toxic lead is on the surface of the meat cuts, it’s ground up, then incorporated into the meat itself.” said Chinese beef expert.

Chinese officials claim the Stringent state and federal inspections are being enforced, but US officials are skeptical. FDA inspectors have been detached to West Coast ports and airports to stop the flow of toxic Chinese beef.
