In an effort to fend off lawsuits, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook officials offered a practical plan to protect Facebook members privacy.
“If you don’t want people to know what you are doing or you have some explicit photos you don’t want the world to see then don’t post them on Facebook!” Zuckerberg explained.
Many Facebook users were satisfied with Zuckerberg’s remarkable idea. “I had never thought of that!” said Candy Martin, a 21 year old college student. “I’m going to take those nude pictures of me off my site now then no one will be able to share them!”
Other Facebook users said Zuckerberg’s plan did not go far enough. “I want to share my ‘naughty nighty’ pictures with my friends but that doesn’t mean I want EVERYONE to be able to see them!” exclaimed 37 year old construction worker Ralph Stafford. Stafford claims that many pictures of him dressed in ladies panties and stockings appeared on sites outside of Facebook and this made him the butt of jokes among many of his co-workers.
Zuckerberg stated, “If Mr. Stafford didn’t want everyone to see those pictures then he shouldn’t have posted them in a place where everyone can see them!”
Many people have been suing Facebook because they claim the social networking site does little to protect their privacy and forces them to take personal responsibility.
