WASHINGTON (Ucs News) — Joining a growing list of Republicans, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Sunday that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich should consider “Keeping his big fat mouth shut”. According to Gonzales, the possible presidential candidate botched his personal life and failed the conservative agenda as House speaker during the Clinton era.
“I think the country, in fact, would be much better served to have a new team leading conservatives, across the board,” Alberto Gonzales said. “I cannot imagine how he is going to be effective for Republicans.”
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, who is helping lead the investigation into the firing of eight federal prosecutors, said Alberto Gonzales’s comments pointed to building bipartisan support for a Gingrich to “sod off”.
“This is another important voice who believes that Gingrich should shut up for the good of the country and the Republican party,” Schumer said in a statement. “We hope both Gonzales and Gingrich would crawl back under their respective rocks.”
