GOP Introduces Bill To Ban CFL Light Bulbs and Solar Calculators

(WASHINGTON:Ucs News) Reps. Joe Barton, R-Texas, Michael Burgess, R-Texas, and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined 12 other Republicans to reintroduced the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act or BULB Act, H.R. 91.

The BULB Act repeals Subtitle B of Title III of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, Bans the use of the popular and energy efficient Compact Florescent Light “CFL” bulbs and will stop the production and import of the “always On” solar power calculator.

Texas Republican Joe Barton, the bills author stated, “The always on solar calculator is the poster child for wasted energy.” According to Barton, an extensive study of solar calculator showed them to be over 97% inefficient. “It’s just shocking to see the energy wasted, these calculators sit unused an average of 97% of the time. America must do better. Every solar powered calculator made provides our enemies
with aid and comfort.

The bills co-sponsre Marsha Blackburn stated “The government mandate requiring energy efficient CLF bulbs is unconstitutional and anti American. The energy saving rules of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 are leading America down the road to Socialism. Burning Middle eastern oil is an American tradition I’m not ready to sacrifice!
