GOP to Honor James O'Keefe for Break in at Sen. Mary Landrieu's Offices

(Washington D.C.) GOP lawmakers rallied around James O’Keefe today to show support for the young operative who was arrested yesterday doing the GOP’s bidding. O’Keefe and three fellow co-conspirators where arrested while trying to tap the phones of Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.

“Well, this kind of stuff happens in politics these days.” says Mitch McConnell, Republican Minority Leader. “Once and a while one of the young guys gets pinched. We work in a racket where people get their hands dirty. It’s kind of a right of passage around here. He’ll be OK, his father is a well connected lawyer and politician. Sure there will be a trial and he’ll get a few months, but when it’s all over I’ll find him a job somewhere.”

In the mean time, the GOP has planned a few things to recognize O’Keef’s service.

O’Keefe, assuming he can travel while out on bail, has been invited to give the keynote at a Salt Lake County GOP fundraiser on Feb. 4. The talk called “Doing what it takes to win!” is expected to be a real hit with younger GOP members. GOP Chairman Thomas Wright told the Salt Lake Tribune: “We’re super lucky to get O’Keefe, I can’t wait to meet him.”

Rep. Pete Olson, R-Tex., has introduced a resolution honoring O’Keefe for breaking into Senator Landrieu’s offices and for his past work in fabricating damaging video tapes to discredit the community organization ACORN. The resolution already has 31 cosponsors and is expected to be voted on in the next few days.

O’Keefe is said to be very thankful for the support shown by his fellow GOP members and promises to do what he can to support the party in the coming mid- term elections.
