Best-selling author JK Rowling says she broke down in tears during the completion of her final book in the Harry Potter series.
She also says she changed the last word in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the eleventh hour.
“When I finished one chapter near the end I absolutely collapsed ,” she told a reporter.
She finished the book alone in a hotel room., where she said she sobbed her heart out.
“I downed half a bottle of champagne from the mini bar, and went home with mascara all over my face.”
The Deathly Hallows is the seventh and, who knows, final (?) book about the schoolboy wizard Harry Potter and his Hogwarts friends.
The plots have taken a darker turn and Rowling has in the past revealed that she would kill off at least two of the main characters.
When asked whether the word “scar” was still the last word in the book, as has been reported, she said: “Scar? It was for ages, and now it’s not. Scar is quite near the end, but it’s not the last word. What do you think about wrinkles and gray hair?” (Harry Potter has a lightning bolt scar on his forehead as a result of a failed curse by the wicked wizard Lord Voldemort.)
Rowling also revealed that the character Harry Potter was “totally imaginary” and not based on anyone.
Rowling said that her decision to terminate the series, is that Potter is no longer a cute child, or even a hormone-laden teenager. ” I suddeny realized that he has almost become a senior citizen and will be of of interest only to members of the American Association of Retired People (AARP). I am reluctant to have him disappear into limbo, and am considering the FINAL, FINAL story; ‘Harry Potter and his Magic Pension’. “
There is considerable confusion among the younger Potter fans who purchase DVDs of the series out of sequence and see Harry change from a small boy to a heart-throb of a sexy teen-ager and suddenly back to a little kid again, or somewhere in between. …Magic?
