Tom Merritt to Replace Daniel Radcliffe in Equus Broadway Run

Unconfirmed sources are reporting that Harry Potter heartthrob Daniel Radcliffe is being replaced by Internet personality Tom Merritt. Merritt will play the role of Alan Strang and will appear naked on stage. Merritt a virtual unknown on Broadway has been wowing dozens of fans on several CNet properties.

“I just don’t know what to say. “says fellow CNeter Molly Wood. “Tom is a very talented guy, I just didn’t know how talented. Tom has kept this part of his life a secret from the online community. We here at CNet are proud, happy and very surprised.”

Other netizens are not so keen to see Merritt play the role of Strang. Famously cranky John C. Dvorak is calling the selection of Merritt “…nothing but a tacky publicity stunt. A desperate act by CNet’s new parent CBS and the producers of Equus to drum up some fake publicity. And besides, Tom Merritt naked, I shudder at the thought.”

Equus and Merritt are scheduled to appear on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre, previews will start on the 5th of September 2008. Merritt says that his duties at CNet will be unaffected by this side project.
